Greetings Fellow CJCC Members,
At last check the weather for Sunday, June 1 for the Beach Bums Corvette Show in Beach Haven should be fine. Don’t forget your radios. My Cell Phone # is (908) 752-1959.
We’ll have two preliminary meeting places:
1. Boardwalk Ice Cream on Main St. in Manville. Al Tone has volunteered to lead this group to the main meeting place at the Windsor Crossing Mall at 751 Route 33 Hightstown, NJ. Tail Lights at Boardwalk 9:00AM. Thanks, Al.
2. Billy’s (formerly Stewart’s) on route 202&31 in Flemington. I will lead the group to the Mall. Tail Lights at Billy's 9:00AM.
Main meeting place – Windsor Crossing Mall, 761 Route 33 Hightstown, NJ
FYI - There is a restaurant near the Mall open on Sunday mornings, “City Streets Café” at 510 Route Route 130 south, or rest rooms can be found at the Walmart, Home Depot at the mall.
We will leave the Mall at about 10:00AM or whenever both groups arrive and everyone is ready to go. The trip is about 58 miles and about an hour and a half. Robert S. will join us on Route 72 but we won't have to stop. Parking at the show is on our own on the streets near the show location. Also, dining is on our own. On a previous e-mail, I listed a number of eateries given to me by the Beach Bums Club. However these are probably not for us as they are some distance from the event but might be good if you want to stay for dinner. There are a couple of casual places to eat right at the show.
Attached are the mapquest directions from Flemington to the Mall and also from the Mall to Beach Haven and the web page for the City Streets Cafe. These docs are available on our web site "Activities/New Events".
Note: If there is a rain postponement, the show will be held on June 8 however I will unable to lead a cruse due to vacation.
Cruise to Beach Bums Corvette Show at Beach Haven – June 1, 2014
On Sunday, June 1, 2014 Anne Marie and I had the pleasure of leading our Club cruise to the Beach Bums Corvette Show at Schooner’s Wharf at Beach Haven. The weather couldn’t have been better - it was sunny and warm but not too hot – we were able to make the trip with our convertible or targa tops down.
Two groups convened at the Windsor Crossing Mall at Hightstown, one led by Al .T and Jay S. from the Manville Ice cream parlor and we led the other from Billy’s in Flemington. Bob B. had just had his silver Corvette professionally detailed and it looked stunning. A few drivers came straight to the Mall. After the drivers meeting and a photo op, Matt and Heather volunteered to be “Tail Gunner” with their 427 convertible and Bruce and Joan C. the “mid-cruise communications” car in their Z-06. We left with 10 Corvettes and the drive down route 539 was great. We were able to stay together with no interlopers virtually the entire way and were fortunate with the timing of the few red lights. Upon arrival at Route 72 we called Robert S. and he and Stephanie were waiting for us near the route 9 overpass and feathered themselves into the group so we had a total now of 11 Corvettes. We did have to stop a few times to re-group on route 72 and later on Long Beach Boulevard but we arrived at the show as a group and proceeded to find parking spots nearby.
Upon arrival we met Rick and Rae A. who had driven there directly. The judged show had many really great Corvettes including a number of 2014 Stingrays, one a gorgeous green Premier edition convertible that really caught my eye.
We had an enjoyable lunch at the Gazebo right by the show, occupying 4 tables.
After further looking at the cars, everyone left for home on their own. Anne Marie and I had a leisurely drive home via Route 539 and stopped a TK’s ice cream near Cream Ridge – a really nice place and the ice cream was great – a fitting CJCC end to a great day.
All-in-all a wonderful day basking in the sun and the shine of a large number of Corvettes and talking to many of the owners. Thanks to all who participated. I took a few pictures and have sent them to Robert for posting. We hope you enjoy them
